NEW Year introduced a really ’glad shock’ for West Somerset-born Professor Helen Davis, who has been awarded an OBE for ’Services to Orthoptics’.

Professor Davis, 63, who went to Minehead Lower School after which to the Upper School – as they have been recognized then – was born in Alcombe, close to Minehead.

After faculty she moved to Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital to do her Diploma in Orthoptics and from there to Manchester Royal Hospital to take a educating qualification, and subsequently turned a tutor of scholars.

A transfer to the University of Sheffield noticed Professor Davis begin and develop a level programme in Orthoptics.

Her profession has spanned 45 years and her dedication to analysis, scientific trials and testing has supplied life-changing remedy to adults and youngsters worldwide.
